Four decades of peace have done little to ease the mistrust between humans and dragons in the kingdom of Goredd. Folding themselves into human shape, dragons attend court as ambassadors, and lend their rational, mathematical minds to universities as scholars and teachers. As the treaty's anniversary draws near, however, tensions are high. Seraphina Dombegh has reason to fear both sides. An unusually gifted musician, she joins the court just as a member of the royal family is murdered—in suspiciously draconian fashion. Seraphina is drawn into the investigation, partnering with the captain of the Queen's Guard, the dangerously perceptive Prince Lucian Kiggs. While they begin to uncover hints of a sinister plot to destroy the peace, Seraphina struggles to protect her own secret, the secret behind her musical gift, one so terrible that its discovery could mean her very life.
I love the fact that the cover is a drawing (artwork + literature is always a win), but I'm iffy regarding the title's font and color. Perhaps they'll make it look all fancy and use gold foil or something interesting like that when they print it...I like how it looks like an old storybook that holds an amazing tale. It's unique from other books on the shelves. I'm definitely excited for this one :)
UK cover to the left...
I have never heard of this before. It sounds interesting. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome, I hadn't seen either cover yet, thanks for posting them Lea! I love the sound of this one, it's definitely going on my list of must-haves! I agree with you on the title color though, a gold foil or metallic ink to make it pop would be really nice:)
ReplyDeleteNever heard of this one before! But I do love the cover, and the plot sound super exciting. Cool choice!
ReplyDeleteO wow. I love both of these covers!
ReplyDeleteThis looks good.
Side note (off subject): I considered "Serafina" as a name for my daughter.
I like the sound of this as well. Good choice!

Looks good! The drawing cover is unique and beautiful, although I'm a little iffy too. It seems more MG. I also like the UK cover which is more conventional and has a YA look. Great choice!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds good. I hope it is because it's hard to find a good YA high fantasy novel these days.
ReplyDeleteOoo I really like the UK cover not so keen on the drawing one though. Sounds amazing though.
ReplyDeleteOoh, this one sounds AWESOME! I love stories about Dragons- there definitely should be more of them in YA. Also, I love how different the cover is from the usual YA. Great pick! :)

ReplyDeleteI remember reading about this at GR. I love the sound of this, and it's HIGH FANTASY!! There simply is not enough out there. The US cover looks like one of those fairytale olden books, which is super cool.
