Top Ten Books I Wish Had Sequels

Hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

1.   VESSEL by Sarah Beth Durst. An awesome fantasy novel with amusing, lovable characters? I definitely wish I could have more of this world and the characters that live in it.

2.   THE FAULT IN OUR STARS by John Green. You know what? Never mind. Green would probably just make me cry. Again.

3.   OUT OF THE EASY by Ruta Sepetys. I adored these characters, and it would be nice to see them again. Although, I enjoyed the ending, so I'd be a bit concerned for the characters if there was a sequel....

4.   THE SCORPIO RACES by Maggie Stiefvater. Not really sure how well a sequel would work out for this novel (which is fantastic), but I'd still love to read more books set in this world.

5.   WANDERLOVE by Kirsten Hubbard. Travel, romance, and fun! Who doesn't want a sequel to this book? Plus, it would mean more lovely artwork!

6.   HARRY POTTER by JK Rowling. This is cheating, isn't it? I know there are seven books, but I need MORE. This series is so charming, exciting, and surprising. It would be incredible to read more books set in this novel's world.

7.   THE TRUTH ABOUT FOREVER by Sarah Dessen. This is one of my favorite Dessen books, so I'd love to see these characters again. In fact, if Dessen just wrote a book entirely about Wes, I wouldn't complain. *swoons over Wes*

8.   MEGAN MEADE'S GUIDE TO THE MCGOWAN BOYS by Kate Brian. This book was so much fun, and by the time it ended, I was wishing for more. Plus, there's a very small moment during the conclusion that always makes me wonder if Megan ends up with the wrong guy...

9.   THE NIGHT CIRCUS by Erin Morgenstern. Vivid, lovely, and memorable, it would be great to read a sequel for this book (especially one that focuses on Poppet and Widget)!

10.   THE HOST by Stephenie Meyer. I have so-and-so feelings for her other novels, but I loved THE HOST, and the ending left me eager for more of the characters. It seems like Meyer *might* be writing a sequel, but it's been a little more than five years since the first novel published, so I don't really know what to think.

What novels do you wish had a sequel?

  1. I definitely wouldn't mind more Harry Potter books! Or even a spin off series about the kids...that would be amazing. Or a series set years and years ago about the founding of the school and its early students...I'll take anything!

    1. I know, right? Reading about the kids or a prequel would be awesome. It would even be cool to read about one of the other magical schools, too. I'd take any sort of JK Rowling book set in that world! *crosses fingers*

  2. THE HOST is getting a sequel, Lea! I'm pretty sure it's actually going to be a trilogy, so here's hoping it doesn't fail like I thought the TWILIGHT series did haha but you and I are on the same page with THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, too. I'd love love love to see more about that story! :)

    1. I keep hearing that, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up until they finally post an official release date. Ah, and TFIOS! It would be amazing to read more...even if John Green makes us all cry in the end ;)

  6. Oh there is just so much you could do with HP! And I agree with The Truth About Forever too - Wes! A book about him would be amazing :P. I loved the setting of The Scorpio Races as well so another book set in that world would be brilliant! Great picks! :)

    1. Yes! Rowling could write about James and Sirius, Harry's kids, or even branch off and write about one of the other magic schools - the possibilities are endless!

A book about Wes would be so incredible. *swoons*

    1. It's a bit bittersweet to ask for a TFIOS sequel - you want more, but then again, you don't want Green to make you burst into tears! ;)

  9. Oh My Goodness I've not read about of the books on the list except HP of course. I have The Fault in Our Stars and I couldn't finish the Host! I'm contemplating giving it another go :)

    1. THE HOST is very slow and character-focused - even when I reread that book, I always have trouble getting through the first couple chapters. But, it's worth it in the end!

  10. I've also heard that there might be a sequel to The Host, but as you pointed out, it has been quite some time since she last published it. So I'm not too hopeful. TFioS is on my list, too; I just want more Hazel and Augustus (even though that plot twist would make the next book non-contemporary).

    1. I'm hoping there will be a sequel, but I'm trying to not get too excited until I see some sort of official, it-has-a-publication-date news.

Ha! Yeah, there would have to be some ghosts or something in order to do a TFIOS sequel ;)

  11. I have a love/hate relationship with a Host sequel. I want it sorta but then I'm afraid.

    Great list.

    1. I know what you mean - I'm curious to know more about what happens next for everyone in THE HOST, but I'm scared it won't be good (or that everyone I adore will die).

  12. What's the moment that makes you wonder if Megan ended up with the wrong guy?!

    1. It's very, very small and possibly me reading too much into it. But it's the third to last paragraph on the final page (starting with "Megan shrugged him off"). It always makes me wonder if she'll end up Evan instead of Finn. It seems like it could go either way. *wonders*

    2. haha interesting!! I'm going to have to re-read the last chapter now.
PS. I would love a sequel to Revel by Maurissa Guibord. Even though I was all 'oh how nice, to read a stand-alone' after I finished it. I now want to know more.

    3. I haven't read REVEL, but I've heard a lot of wonderful things about it. Sounds like it's a book worth reading! :)

  13. I can't believe I didn't think of the Truth about Forever - hands down my favorite Dessen book. Plus, I totally agree with Harry Potter - I'd read those books forever!

  15. I'd be so happy if there was a sequel to The Host. I've been meaning to read The Scorpio Races for the longest time though I still have yet to read it!

  16. I'm just reading The Scorpio Races right now actually! I'm excited about it being a standalone because every book I start these days is in a series, and I have enough books to get through as it is without having to commit myself to more series. Awesome list!

  17. Harry Potter and TFiOS both made my list too. I don't want their stories to be over!

  18. Oh, I concur with many of these! Even though for some of them, like you mention, not really sure if a sequel would be possible and if that would work out. But I just want more stories set in those worlds and with those characters, you know? I'm a bit confused as to the status of The Host sequel, as well...

  19. I should have cheated with Harry Potter too! Seriously, I wish we could see Harry's children, their children, Hermonine's kids, maybe some distant cousin. Just everyone until there are hundreds and hundreds of books :D

  20. Really excellent list. So many good ones one here like The Truth About Forever and The Night Circus. I could also use more Harry Potter...forever.
