Waiting on Wednesday (times two!)

WOW is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine

The Book of  Blood and Shadow
Robin Wasserman
April 10th, 2012
It was like a nightmare, but there was no waking up. When the night began, Nora had two best friends and an embarrassingly storybook one true love. When it ended, she had nothing but blood on her hands and an echoing scream that stopped only when the tranquilizers pierced her veins and left her in the merciful dark.

But the next morning, it was all still true: Chris was dead. His girlfriend Adriane, Nora's best friend, was catatonic. And Max, Nora's sweet, smart, soft-spoken Prince Charming, was gone. He was also—according to the police, according to her parents, according to everyone—a murderer.

Desperate to prove his innocence, Nora follows the trail of blood, no matter where it leads. It ultimately brings her to the ancient streets of Prague, where she is drawn into a dark web of secret societies and shadowy conspirators, all driven by a mad desire to possess something that might not even exist. For buried in a centuries-old manuscript is the secret to ultimate knowledge and communion with the divine; it is said that he who controls the Lumen Dei controls the world. Unbeknownst to her, Nora now holds the crucial key to unlocking its secrets. Her night of blood is just one piece in a puzzle that spans continents and centuries. Solving it may be the only way she can save her own life.
You say "secrets" or even allude to a mystery, and I'm completely on board. The cover is a bit odd though (it reminds me of The Host). I'm not really feeling this cover too much, except for the cool eye color & reflection.

And my next pick is...
I couldn't find any info on a release date or a summary (the cover was revealed on Anna's Tumblr), but I am EXCITED, and I'm loving this dark, muted cover - it makes me curious about the story. I loved Jarzab's debut novel, so I'm hopeful this one will be just as great :)

What are you waiting on?

  1. The Book of Blood and Shadow definitely sounds amazing, but it will be a Book Depo purchase for me because the UK cover is WAY better! :) I never got a chance to read All Unquiet Things. Can't wait to hear more about this one!

  16. I am soooo eager for The Book of Blood and Shadow, and not just for the fantastic premise! It's by the same author of the Skinned trilogy, which I love (although I still need to read the last book), so...no surprise why I'm excited. XD
