Top Ten 2014 Releases I Meant To Read But Didn't Get To

Hosted by the lovely folks at The Broke and the Bookish

1.  DREAMS OF GODS AND MONSTERS: Along with the sequel, since I still need to read that...

2.  THE RETRIBUTION OF MARA DYER: Same as above.

3.  RAGING STAR: Same as above, again. WHY CAN'T I FINISH SERIES?!

4.  STRANGE AND EVER AFTER: Again, with the series issue. But I have a good excuse, because someone stole books 2 and 3 from my backpack only hours after I purchased them (partially my fault, for not storing them in my car before class...and for thinking I could trust my classmates with my bag for five minutes).

5.  HEIR OF FIRE: I had planned to read this during my winter break, but some health issues made reading impossible (thank goodness I had audiobooks and music to keep me occupied). Hopefully I'll get to it soon!

6.  SINNER: I came so close, but I didn't finish the audiobook of FOREVER in time to start SINNER in 2014. This year, however, I will get to it!
7.  RED RISING: So much hype, and I wanted to read it, but somehow it fell to the side of my TBR again and again.

8.  BLUE LILY, LILY BLUE: I think it's a good thing I didn't get to it. The longer I wait to read book 3, the less time I have to wait for book 4.

9.  I'LL GIVE YOU THE SUN: I loved JN's debut, I'm so afraid this book won't live up to my expectations! I'll get to it this year though.

10.  THE IMPOSSIBLE KNIFE OF MEMORY: I kept putting this off because LHA books tend to be either emotionally difficult reads or a slight disappointment. Either way, I need to be in the right mood when I start this book.

What books did you miss out on reading last year?

    1. It's hard to read everything when so many good books release in a year!

Ooh, THE WINNER'S CURSE is amazing! I hope you get to read it this year :)

  2. I need to read Retribution of Mara Dyer and I'll Give You the Sun as well. I'm sorry you weren't feeling well over winter break. I hope you are feeling better!

    1. Glad I'm not the only one who hasn't read IGYTS. I feel like everyone has read that book!

And thank you, Christina! I'm starting to feel better (slower than I'd like, but getting there).

  3. I liked The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer but I never continued with the series. I am really bad about that sometimes too. Same thing with Daughter of Smoke and Bone. I absolutely loved the first book but I knew the second book was going to be dark and painful to read so I never did even though I really want to finish the series.

    1. It's hard to continue with series when there are so many new books to check out! I really need to get better about that.

Same with the sequel to DoS&B! I almost started it, but read it was intense, so I set it aside since I wasn't in the mood for a dark book.

  4. I read Red Rising and the Retribution of Mara Dyer. Red Rising was UNBELIEVABLE but I was a little let down by the final Mara Dyer book.

    1. Glad to hear that about RR! Sad about the last MD book, though. Excited to read both, though :)

      Thanks for dropping by!

  5. I'll Give You The Sun made my list this week as well! I'm not always a fan of romance, but I've been hearing so many good things about it that it's hard to resist. On a different note, I really enjoyed Daughter of Smoke and Bone and Throne of Glass, yet I still have not read their sequels. I'm sorry about the book theft, I know that must be terrible. Since I freak out at the thought of losing a book, I don't know what I'd do if one was stolen from me. Thanks for sharing, though, and enjoy your reads!

    1. I loved Jandy Nelson's debut, so I feel terrible for not reading IGYTS (especially since so many people seem to love it). You MUST check out the sequel to TOG, it's amazing.

Ugh, yes. It was kind of a surprise to find that someone stole them, but I'm glad all they took were the two books (hopefully whoever stole both enjoyed them, or else it was all for nothing).

      Thanks for stopping by :)

  6. I'll Give You the Sun and The Impossible Knife both made my list. So disappointed in myself for those bc I love both authors so much. I just started the Raven Boys series, so hopefully Blue Lily, Lily Blue is in my future also :)

Ooh, I hope you like TRB!

    1. I know! It was kind of hard to make this post, if only because there really were so many 2014 releases I wanted to read last year. Why do all of the books have to sound so fabulous? *sighs*

  9. You've got some great titles here! I need to read Red Rising and the Mara Dyer series. I also have never read the Gods and Monsters series but have heard so many good things about it. 10. I can't believe someone stole books from your bag! That's awful. I'd be so angry. I'll Give You The Sun isn't out over here yet but I'm hoping to get hold of it later in the year. I'm with your on DOGAM and Heir of Fire. I am really bad at keeping on top of new releases but I don't really mind. I bought Red Rising the other day! I wasn't going to read it but all the hype got me intrigued!

    1. I'm just glad they only took the books, and nothing else. Could have been worse!

Hope you enjoy Red Rising (and that it lives up to the hype)!

  11. I absolutely adored Blue Lily, Lily Blue. It's one of my favorite books from last year. Heir of Fire is on my list as well and I want to read Red Rising soon too.

Someone stole your books? What is wrong with people, honestly. I'd be so angry...

I hope you enjoy them when you do read them though!

    1. So happy to hear that! I'm really excited to start BL,LB, but I figured I might as well try to wait....that way I can have less time until the last one releases!

Some people suck. Hopefully they enjoyed them, or else they stole them for no reason whatsoever.

Thank you! Hope you enjoy the books on your TBR too

  12. Eeeek! Blue Lily, Lily Blue! You must read it soon, you just must, hih. <3 So so amazing. Sigh. I adored it :) Loved Sinner too. <3 I also didn't get to read Mara Dyer, because I need to re-read book one and two first :p Seems like that will take forever to do, lol. So I'm waiting a little. I hope you will get the chance to read all of these books soon sweetie. <3 Happy reading :)

    1. I'm SO tempted, but Stiefvater books tend to end with cliffhangers, so I'm trying to wait now until it's closer to the last book. I just started SINNER - great so far!

      Thanks for stopping by :)

  13. Pretty much ALL these books are 2014 releases I meant to read but never did. :/ my reading slump has mostly receded but now I'm easing my way back in and relying on fantasy novels to get me back into the groove :)
