There have been a lot of cover redesigns lately - old covers on the left, new ones on the right!

THE INNOCENTS and THIS SIDE OF JEALOUSY
Wow. I have words, but none are nice....
I love the old cover more, it's so striking.
Noooo! I'm glad I purchased the hardcover, because that pink/purple hue is not working for me. The original wins for me, because that warm, dusty light brown color rocks (and suits the story).
You can't beat that awesome tattoo. Cool font on the new cover.
I love the new cover, especially the mirrored effect! So stunning!
I like how the girl is a bit more fierce in the original cover, but the new one is good too.
Both seem a bit quirky and fun!
I love the original cover. Creepy hand!
THE TWIN'S DAUGHTER
Such different vibes....I adore the old cover's smart design! .
Have you spotted any recent cover redesigns?

Wow is it just me? But I see nothing wrong with any of these old covers! There are a few that I like more now, but the old ones are fine!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I was surprised that most of these covers were redesigned - while there are a couple good ones, I'm obviously a fan of the originals!
DeleteI think the only redesign I really like is the Mortal Instruments one and, even then, I liked the original, too. So, no to Sugar and Snark, I agree -- I see nothing wrong with any of these old covers, either!! I'm sure there was a reason, probably to appeal to a different or wider audience but...*shrugs*
ReplyDeleteI like both Mortal Instruments covers too. It's too bad they decided to go in different directions for the other books, but they have reason for it. Hopefully the changes will draw in more readers (even if a few of the new looks make me cringe).
DeleteIn almost all but the last I like the original better. :) Fun post!
ReplyDeleteI was a bit surprised by how most of the original covers are better than the new ones! I usually manage to stumble across a few more awesome redesigned covers, but this time, I was mostly sad to see the changes.
DeleteI didn't realize so many had undergone design changes lately Lea! I really do like the new City of Bones cover, it's just gorgeous. The mirrored effect is something that's been done a lot, but it never fails to be striking. I really loved that tattoo on the Dark Light cover too, I wish that had somehow been incorporated into the new one as well, but the new one is nice on its own. Thanks for sharing these!
ReplyDeleteThe mirrored effect is very popular, but it always looks so cool! I'm surprised they changed the cover for Dark Light - that tattoo made it interesting, and the new cover is good but generic.
DeleteThanks for stopping by, Jenny! :)
I love this feature, Lea! I really love the new TMI covers. I think the mirrored effect is so much more appealing than the headless bodies haha I do have to say that I think Lili Peloquin's previous book covers were more attractive than the new ones. I also really like the previous version of Let the Sky Fall. The colours are so much better! I hadn't realized how many covers have changed!
ReplyDeleteAgreed on the TMI covers! And on Peloquin's old covers - I'm surprised they changed them to something so...generic? The new ones almost look outdated. The colors are definitely better on the original LTSF!
DeleteIt seems like a lot of covers are changing lately - it's hard to keep up!
Nooooooo, not Let the Sky Fall!! The original cover is so beautiful and warm, makes no sense to change it to unrealistic-looking pink and purple. =/ I'm super glad I purchased the hardcover, too.
ReplyDeleteI know, right? The original is stunning! I'm hoping that the publisher changes their mind and publishes the paperback with the original version. The pink/purple just looks so bizarre.
DeleteYeah, I don't understand the color change for Let the Sky Fall at ALL. Why make such a minor change? Lame.
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't think they made the right choice, eliminating the guy's back for The Dark Light. It's certainly...eye-catching. Though I agree with you on the new font.
I'm kind of hoping that new color change for the LTSF cover is a mistake of some sort, because it doesn't even compare to the gorgeous original cover!
DeleteThe tattoo was so eye-catching. I'd stop and take a look if I saw that in a bookstore. The new cover is one I'd probably walk right by (unfortunately), despite the cool font.
I almost always prefer the old covers, but sometimes I like re-designs. I can't even begin to understand the re-design for The Innocents. The old covers are vastly superior. I agree that the gold tones of Let the Sky Fall is definitely preferable, too. I like both of the covers for Mothership and am fine with the re-design for Don't Turn Around. The re-design/movie cover for City of Bones is so striking. I love it. Great post!
ReplyDelete-Natalie @Natflix&Books
Agreed regarding THE INNOCENTS. The new look is a bit bizarre.
DeleteI love the movie cover version for CoB! It really is striking - the kind of cover that makes you stop and stare for a moment :)
Thanks for dropping by!
I don't say this often, but...I like the City of Bones re-design so much more. I might actually re-purchase the book, because I would fangirl over my own bookshelf if it was on there, haha.
ReplyDeleteThe new covers for The Innocents and This Side of Jealousy, though? Blegh. Those covers don't stand out AT ALL.
The CoB movie cover version is awesome! I want a poster of that for my wall, it's gorgeous.
DeleteAgreed regarding TI & TSoJ - they look very 90's to me.
I have to say though the new covers are nice i like the way the original way better on most of these. The ones for the inncents and this side of jealousy are terrible. How did those even get okayed? what were they thinking.

Yes! There are some nice new covers, but the originals are better for most of them. But as long as new readers pick up the books, then that's all that matters :)
DeleteHadn't seen the change for Let the Sky Fall-I agree with you about preferring the original (wonder what the second book will look like as I assume they changed the first to somehow match.)
