Slowing Things Down and Taking a Step Back

Hey everyone!

I've been having some health concerns for the last three weeks, and I finally managed to meet with my doctor a few days ago. Apparently, all of my current health problems are being caused by stress, and I was told to take it easy and try to cut out as much stress in my life as possible.

Unfortunately, since I can't exactly take a break from all of my school/college stress (darn it), I'm going to have to slow things down with the blog instead. While blogging may be so much fun, it can also be extremely stressful for me. It bothers me to have to push blogging to the side, since I love it so much, but I need to focus on my health right now.

So, I'm going to be slowing things down and taking a step back from YA Book Queen for the rest of October and possibly November (we'll see). However, I will still have my posts for the Silk and Paper campaign (and my contest) each Monday. But, for the rest of October, those posts are likely going to be the only ones going up on YA Book Queen until I start feeling better. I'll hopefully get my stress level down and health back in order soon!

Also, out of curiosity, do any of you have any de-stressing tips?

Hope you all are having a fabulous October so far,

Signature

    1. I'm so sorry to hear this. But it sounds like you're doing the right thing.
    2. I'll miss you!
    3. Will you still tweet?
    4. De-stressing? When I feel I'm stressed, I stop, breath, take a break, make a cup of tea, and take a long shower. Then I catch up visiting blogs. For some reason that calms me. Mr. Whimsy calls my blog checking my "happy place".

    1. Aw, thanks Juju! I think I will likely be tweeting more than usual, so you'll probably see me more over there, even if I'm on a blogging break :)

Visiting blogs is strangely calming, now that I think about it. I am, admittedly, not a tea drinker (I think it's mostly because I have yet to find a type of tea that tastes good to me), although I probably should take it up since I've read certain kinds are so beneficial to ones health. And who doesn't love a long shower? *heaven*

  2. One last thing, I never keep a schedule for my blog. I post when I want, when I can, or when I want to. Sometimes once a week and sometimes more. But I keep it for stress free that way.

    1. That's a good idea. I usually keep a blog schedule, but posting whenever seems smarter and less stressful, instead of worrying about having a post ready by a certain date.

Thanks for the tips, Juju! :)

  3. Take care of yourself!

This is mostly blog related de-stressing tips but I agree with juju. I blog whenever I feel like it. Sometimes day to day. I know that method stresses some people out lol but it works for me. Blogging is supposed to be fun - not a job. It's not a big deal if you need to take some time for yourself.

This fall weather helps me relax too. My husband and I took the dogs for a long walk this morning because it's finally cooling down.

    1. I definitely need to relax how I blog, regarding when I post and how often...I'll definitely make sure to do so once I'm back from my break.

Oh, I love fall weather! Going for a walk sounds nice too. Thanks for the tips :)

    1. Tea seems to be popular when it comes to relaxing! I really need to start drinking it, apparently.

      Thank you :)

  5. I hope that things will get better soon and the stress will drop off. I totally understand the need to take a break sometimes.

I remember how stressful college could be. One thing I used to do was give myself a 15 minute break every day and have a cup of tea with Nutella cookie sandwiches (those little 100 calorie snack pack shortbread cookies are perfect for that). I also read a book for fun while I enjoyed the tea and snacks. Another trick I use when I am stressed is playing music like Enya and closing my eyes and listening.

    Good luck with everything!

    1. Thanks, Christina! I'm hoping that this break will help put me back to normal.

Thanks for the tips! Especially the Enya music - I haven't heard her music in a long time and I forgot how soothing her music is.

  6. I'm in the middle of selling my house, so yes, I can relate to the stress thing. Try and get some exercise in on a regular basis - yoga, walking, stretching. Really helps relieve the stress. Good luck and feel better!

    1. Oh, yikes! Selling a house does sound stressful.

My doctor said something about exercise too. I usually exercise pretty randomly, so I definitely need to get on more of a day-to-day or every other day schedule with that. Thanks for sharing some tips :)

  7. I hope you are feeling better soon! We will miss you. Your health is most important though and I hope you can de-stress. College is so much work and I applaud you for being a student and an incredible blogger as well. It's hard to manage it all. I agree with Juju- I never keep a blog schedule unless I've committed to particular posts. I just post what I can, when I can, and don't stress about it. I think that really helps. To de-stress I take hot baths, workout, grab a beer with friends, do something active outside (sunshine always helps me) or hit up the beach if the weather allows. Feel better soon and take care of yourself!

    1. Thank you! I'm hoping a blogging break will help me relax, that way its one less thing to worry about. College is definitely a lot of work, but hopefully it'll pay off in the end :)

Thank you for your kind words and advice, Christina. I'm absolutely going to relax my blogging and posting when I do come back, that seems like the best way to blog without letting it get stressful.

  8. Oh, poor girl! I totally understand, though. Your health and your sanity have to come first. I'm with you on the stress--I do love blogging but it's hard to keep up with! To de-stress, I snuggle my puppies, go for a walk, do some yoga, or light a fire and curl up with a cup of tea and a good book.

Good luck with everything. Hope to see you back and 100% soon!

    1. Absolutely - health should always come first. Haha, I'm so jealous your dogs let you snuggle with them. My Labrador is unfortunately not the snuggling type, since she's much too busy protecting the backyard and the house from birds, mailman, UPS, leaves, wind, and other silly things. She is a very amusing creature ;)

Tea seems to be a popular relaxing tip! You can't go wrong with a good book too :)

      Thanks, Mary!

  9. I had my first migraine my freshman year! College is super stressful. No doubt about it! If you need any help around here, just let me know. I could probably handle doing some reviews or guest posting if you need, and I bet there are plenty of others willing to do the same!

And running... better than therapy, massage and muscle relaxers combined! Nothing will clear your mind and empower you like a good run.

    1. I've heard running is a good thing to do regularly to help with relaxing. Thanks for the tip! :)

  10. Completely understood. I am an anxiety-ridden person, very prone to stress myself, and I can't imagine updating a blog as regularly as you do while still in school. I know my time spent blogging instantly went up the moment I graduated and was able to chill a bit. My de-stressing tip is the same as your doctor's: just take it easy on your responsibilities as much as possible, which unfortunately does mean easing up on blogging a bit. I think I'll definitely miss your presence, but you won't be forgotten! Just take your time and we'll all be here when you get back :)

    1. Anxiety + stress suck so much.

I'm a bit bummed about taking a step back from the blog, but it seems like the best option. I can't cut out my college stress, so this is the easier option. Thanks for dropping by with your de-stressing tip, Aylee :)

  11. Going for a walk always helped me de-stress, but sometimes nothing but relaxing with a good movie helps. Take care and look after yourself. We will still be here when you are back. :)

  13. One of the best ways for me to keep stress levels down, and I usually have incredibly high ones, is to try and plan things way ahead. I almost always have my planner/organizer on me and its always updated so I know whats going on ahead of time. Also, it helped me to step back from my blog a bit and get posts scheduled a few weeks ahead of time before I came back, that way I had some space and didn't have to stress getting a post up every day.

  14. I hope things get better for you. It's good to take a break every once and awhile. A good movie should help. Also maybe reading the Georgia Nicolson series :) It always helps me relax and laugh!
