Discussion Questions for Chapters 7-11 (hosted by The Unread Reader)
1. Gabi's search for her sister is made increasingly difficult by the fight for territory between Castello Forelli and Castello Paratore. At this point, do you think the rivalry is warranted? Why or why not? I don’t think the rivalry is warranted, and I’m not even going to attempt explaining myself so as not to bore anyone with a long-winded explanation (trust me, it would bore you).
2. Gabi aids Fortino by having his sickroom cleaned out and using steam to loosen the phlegm inside his lungs so he could breathe better. Have you ever found yourself in a situation that required you to rely on home remedies to aid yourself or another? What are some of your favorite home remedies? I rely more heavily on modern medicine, but I do sort of use home remedies. I’m a firm believer that warm liquid foods/drinks are the absolute best things you can eat/drink when you’re sick. Also, warm, steamy showers always make breathing a little easier (plus they feel good!). Gargling salt water is supposed to be great for sore throats, although it rarely works for me (mostly because I gag on the saltiness and spit it all out, lol).
3. Marcello and his men don't hide their surprise when they learn that Gabi is skilled with a sword. What did you think of this development? Has your initial impression of Gabi changed? Do you have any secret skills? I love that Gabi can swing a sword and that she’s brave enough to put herself in the middle of a battle. I think I’m liking her character more as the story moves along. As for my secret skills, I don’t think I really have any…maybe I should work on getting some ;)
4. "Our lips were so close, I could feel the heat of his breath on my skin." Gabi and Marcello's feelings for one another are beginning to stir. What do you think of Marcello as a romantic interest thus far? What do you think of his intended? I actually like Luca more than Marcello, plus he’s single! Marcello’s already taken and that complicates things. Lady Romana Rossi was a bit of a {expletive} at first, but I don’t know. I want to still hate her, but she kind of redeemed herself a little bit during the escape scene. Let’s just see what she does next.
5. Marcello and Luca take turns teaching Gabi the dances of Toscana. Would you have liked to attend a ball like the one Gabi was practicing for? Do you like to dance? Do you know any cool dance moves? Extra (not really) points if you YouTube yourself dancing and share the video. Come on, it will be fun! :) I think it’d be fun to attend a ball, in a gorgeous gown, as long as I knew how to do the steps!
And as for making a video of myself dancing – HA! You don’t want to see me dance. I like to dance, but I don’t do it very well!

Haha! If your anything like me, when I try to explain things, I am SO long-winded, I don't think people will wanna hang around to listen. :-P lol But, yeah, in some ways, I agree that the rivalry seems kinda unwarranted. But then again, the Paratore's are determined to have it, and if possible, permanently get rid of the Forelli's.
ReplyDeleteSo I saw their response as more of a defense against Lord Paratore's attacks. But if they could gain his Castello, they wouldn't hesitate to keep it. Ugh! War is so confusing at times!
My dad always tried to get me to gargle with salt water. It never seemed to work for me but he was a strong believer in it's powers.
ReplyDeleteI'm starting to like Gabi more too. I think it is super awesome she is willing to fight and yield a sword along with those sexy knights.
I'm with you, I understand her attraction to Marcello but Luca is what caught my attention.
ReplyDeleteI totally dig Luca. I think he is a nice light hearted right hand man to Marcello. You know he wants to say "why so serious?" I hope we find Lia for him.

I really like Luca too! I hope we continue to see more of him, here's hoping since I can't have him he can be with Gabi's sister. ;)
ReplyDeleteI am liking Gabi more now that she can kick butt!
You know I never thought of the home remedies as in food and many of us today have mentioned Chicken Soup....
ReplyDeleteWhen Im sick I love soup, 7Up and saltine crackers....:)
Great answers this week!!
LOL! I liked your {expletive} bit. And I have a real soft spot for Luca too. He is just so charming and funny! Plus, I love surfer looking dudes.
ReplyDeleteGreat answers this week. Thanks for joining us! :)
I LOVE Luca, too! I don't really know which on I like better, but Luca and Marcello hold my heart. I love Luca sense of humor and the way he looks at life. Still, I would love to get my hands on Marcello.
ReplyDeleteIt's so true that a shower feel so good when you're sick. I always tell my husband to take a shower and he'll feel better and it always works.

I totally forgot about the salt water gargle for sore throats. My family also used that remedy for a toothache. I liked your answers today! Looking forward to next week!
ReplyDeleteBalls would definitely be awesome if I knew how to dance those dances! And had a gorgeous dress. :)
ReplyDeleteMy mom used to ALWAYS push that saltwater at me when I was getting a sore throat! I love HOT showers :)
ReplyDeleteTEAM LUCA! :)
Ugh, gargling with salt water makes me want to throw up, but my mom always does it, and swears by it (and then pushes her salt-gargling skillage on me)!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for taking part in this week's WW! Look forward to seeing you next week.
I agree Luca is described as a blonde surfer type...uhhh...what's wrong with that??
ReplyDeleteI agree the more the story went on the more I loved Gabi as a character. I thought it was brave of her to yield a sword. Awesome answers :)
ReplyDeleteI'm coming to like both Gabi and Lady Rossi more as the story progresses too... we'll see how long the like for Lady Rossi lasts though. I have a feeling we haven't seen the last of her bitchy side. Can't wait to start reading the next few chapters!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you about the video on You Tube dancing! Once I make it, Yikes! It's there forever. Now, Me and the vacuum and the dry mop, great dance partners. I even do a dip with the dust pan!
ReplyDeleteLoved your answers, but would have liked to read the long version of number 1!
