"A powerful and moving stand-alone novel for anyone who loved A GATHERING LIGHT or BETWEEN SHADES OF GREY, in which a teenage girl struggles against the odds for survival in a North Korean prison camp...From the author of A Brighter Fear. Yoora is a teenage girl living in North Korea, dreaming of the lights of foreign cities while eking out a miserable existence in a rural northern village. But then she makes a mistake: she falls in love. With someone far removed from her social class. Someone dangerous to know. When tongues start to wag, her father is executed and she is taken to a prison camp in the mountains. There, escape seems even further from her grasp. But Yoora is about to learn an important lesson: love can surprise you, and it can come in many forms..."This one intrigued me with BETWEEN SHADES OF GREY reference, because that was one touching story. Hopefully this one will live up to that comparison!

"In 2150, when genetic manipulation has been outlawed, seventeen-year-old Zelia must rescue her kidnapped sister with the help of a band of outcasts with mutated genes."So little summary, but still very interesting. I'll be looking forward to a more detailed description.
What are you waiting on?
Both of these look interesting! I love the cover of A Dream of Lights but it sounds like it could be a very sad story.
ReplyDeleteI love the cover for ADoL's too! It definitely does sound like it could be a sad, emotional story (but when done right, those tend to be the most memorable books).
DeleteI agree with Little Miss Becky - A Dream of Lights sounds as though it could be unbearably sad, but it also sounds like the sort of thing I used to love to read when I was a teenager. Nice picks!
ReplyDeleteIf you'd like, you can check out my WoW here.
Sometimes the sad books end up being the kind of stories that you enjoy the most. I'm definitely a fan of a book that can make me feel the character's emotions (good or bad). :)
DeleteA Dream of Lights sounds like my cup of tea. I loved Between Shades of Grey.
ReplyDeleteWasn't BSoG amazing? I'm hoping ADoL's will live up to the comparison :)
DeleteWow, beautiful covers and interesting stories. Looking forward reading them. :)
ReplyDeleteAgreed! I love the ADoL's cover, so lovely and wintery :)
DeleteGreat picks! I haven't read Between the Shades of Grey, but I heard that it was awesome. I will have to check out A Dream of Lights!
ReplyDeleteOh, you must read BSoG by Ruta Sepetys! It's such an emotional, touching story.
DeleteI hadn't heard of a Dream of Lights, but now it's on my TBR list!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to add both of these to my TBR! A Dream of Lights sounds like an emotional read, and even though the synopsis is short, Control sounds like it will be super exciting. Great picks :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful covers! i have a gathering light on my list of to-reads if enjoy it I'll definatley get a dream of light!
ReplyDeletehere my WOW
The first line of that synopsis for A Dream of Lights is what immediately convinced me to put this one on my TBR list. I mean, Between Shades of Gray? YES PLEASE! Plus, it's a standalone, which is always great to see. I can't believe I haven't heard of it before! Control also looks super fantastic, and it's a teen author. That's always exciting. =)
ReplyDeleteFantastic picks Lea! Thanks for sharing. <3
Hey there! I agree-Dream of Lights sounds really great! A
